Escritor y académico británico nacido en Irlanda. Lewis fue docente en Oxford (1925–54) y después en Cambridge (1954–63). Una de sus primeras obras, Alegoría del amor (1936), ensayo crítico acerca de la literatura medieval y renacentista, suele considerarse su mejor trabajo académico. Se hizo conocido en Inglaterra y EE.UU. por una serie de programas radiales de la BBC sobre el cristianismo durante los años de la guerra. Muchos de sus libros abrazan la apologética cristiana, el más conocido es Cartas del diablo a su sobrino (1942), una novela epistolar satírica en la cual un experimentado demonio instruye a su joven aprendiz en el arte de la tentación. También son muy populares Crónicas de Narnia (1950–56), una serie de siete cuentos infantiles (de los cuales el más popular es El león, la bruja y el armario, 1950) que se transformaron en una obra clásica de la literatura fantástica; y su trilogía de ciencia ficción, conocida sobre todo por su primer volumen, Lejos del planeta silencioso (1938).
